Sights and Sounds

Functions....

Any mobile DJ will tell you that the core of his or her work is Weddings and Birthdays and other jobs come along occasionally. I pride myself that Porky’s Disco and the services I offer can adapt to any situation, to any audience and give a good show.

I will not take bookings where I think someone else can do a better, or I may not be able to supply all that has been requested, for this reason alone I won’t take parties with a high Rap/RnB?Hip hop requirement, I simply don’t have a good enough appreciation of the music to do it justice.

Listed below are some of the oddball gigs and unusual events in recent years, of course all parties and events are different, but I hope that this demonstrates the flexibility that sometimes is the key to a successful event.

Event

The Challenge!

The Solution

Village Carnival

As with all outside events there is a danger of foul weather being a problem, in this case, causing the event to be called off altogether.

The Organisers wanted to be sure that they would have entertainment but did not need the headache of paying for it if the event was rained off.

I was able to agree a way forward with the event hosts that for a small agreed insurance (20%) of the booking fee there would be nothing more to pay if the event was rained off any time up to start of play. The event actually was rained off and my costs were covered without a big bill to the operators.

Corporate Christmas Party

The customer wanted a full party organising, I pulled together clowns, jugglers, a ringmaster magician, balloon modellers but we had just 40 minutes to transform a customer restaurant into a circus themed party venue for 120 kids.

Several visits to the venue and constant communication with the entertainers provided a solution where the children were entertained from the moment they arrived in the car park which gave us the space to get everything up and running in 40 minutes.

Marquee Wedding

With many venues now, the disco has a choice of either setting up before the function starts, or walking in with heavy boxes and equipment while the guests are arriving, chatting or worse, the wedding speeches are on.

The preferred option is the early set up, but having spent £5000 decorating a beautiful marquee, the bride, understandably, was not keen to have me predominantly black and functional equipment in the photographs.

The answer was to build a tent within the tent, a drop of ripstop nylon with colour co-ordinated drapes was placed in front of the equipment and actually provided a backdrop for the cake, this meant of course that the PA was in place for the speeches and setting up for the party was just a case of lifting the curtain to coincide with the first dance.

Bonfire Night
party

The organiser wanted two disco’s, one for music outside during the fireworks display, one inside. Some announcements would need to be called outside, some inside, and some both.

The solution was to provide one disco with separated sound systems, linked up and radio microphones provided for all the assorted announcers

Sports Stings

The customer has a cd of tracks to play at a sporting events series, the tracks are action-specific and need to be accessed dynamically in less than a second for the best effect.

I am writing a small software solution which will allow the user to choose a button on the PC desktop and play the sound “sting” immediately.
